The police have launched a manhunt to arrest a teacher of a madrassah under Shahzadpur upazila in Sirajganj after guardians of two minor students on Sunday night filed a case accusing him of sexually assaulting their minor sons.
The accused, Hafiz Munnaf Ali of Garadah village, is a teacher at Jugnidhah Tahfizul Quran Hafizia Madrassah.
According to the complaint, he had been abusing the children for a long time by intimidating them.
Shahzadpur police station officer-in-charge Aslam Ali said on Monday that drives were underway to arrest Munnaf and members of the madrasa鈥檚 governing body.
Munnaf and several committee members reportedly went into hiding after filing the case.
OC Aslam said that students of the madrassah left the institution, and police personnel were deployed to calm the angry locals.
The madrassah superintendent, Md Anwar Hossain, rejected phone calls, and the committee president, Jahangir Hossain, could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts over the phone.
