A 10-feet-long python was recovered at Kathalbari union in Kurigram Sadar upazila on Friday morning.

Local people said that the python lay coiled around a tree of a man named Bhelong in Agomony Bazar area when it was discovered by some children who went near the tree to pluck vegetables at around 7:00am.

Villagers rushed to the spot as the children screamed, prompting the alarmed snake to climb upward the tree.

Villagers guessed that the snake might have reached there from the nearby Dharala River during the flood this monsoon.

Later on Hossain Ali of a local voluntary group ‘Green Village Foundation’ recovered it and gave it to the forest department officials who took it to the local forest office.

Service staff of Kurigram Forest Department Ashraful Haque said that the snake would be released in a safe place.

Chairman of Green Village Foundation M Rashid Ali said that the python was about 10 years old.
