Garment workers blocked the road at Kuril in Dhaka on Wednesday, demanding unpaid wages and allowances.
The blockade brought traffic to a complete halt on both sides of the road, causing severe suffering for the commuters.
On the Traffic Alert group on Facebook, one user posted on the group at about 3:15pm, saying that he had been stuck on Airport Road for over an hour.
鈥楾he Government of Bangladesh should make a law so that no one can block the roads, as many people have medical emergencies, flights, and important meetings.
鈥楽erious measures need to be taken to solve this issue,鈥� he said in his post.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner of the Gulshan Traffic Division, Ziaur Rahman, said that 500 to 600 workers of Eurozone Fashion Garments began the blockade at about 12:00pm, pressing their demands for unpaid wages and allowances.
鈥楾he road remained blocked for about four hours, causing vehicles on the Uttara鈥揃adda鈥揜ampura route to be stuck in long traffic jams,鈥� he said.
