The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to seize the income tax records of Bushra Siddique, daughter of Tarique Ahmed Siddique who was security adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Acting judge Ibrahim Mia of the court issued the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission assistant director SM Rashedul Hasan.
According to the petition, Bushra is under investigation in an ACC case.
During an inquiry, officials found that she is an income taxpayer and under the law, the collection of her tax returns and related documents requires a court order.
The anti-graft agency in its petition sought the court order to ask deputy tax commissioner of the Tax Zone-8 in Dhaka to seize all returns and original copies of related records and provide certified copies of the records to the ACC for review during the investigation.
The ACC has been investigating Tarique Ahmed Siddique, a retired Major General who served as Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 security adviser from 2009, over allegations of illegally amassing wealth.
On July 17, the commission filed four separate cases against Tarique, his wife and their two daughters on charges of amassing illegal assets.
In addition, Tarique and 18 others have been accused in four separate cases over embezzling Tk 812 crore from various development projects at three airports.
Earlier, on January 28, the court imposed a travel ban on Tarique Siddique.
On April 29, a similar restriction was placed on his wife Shahin Siddique and daughters Bushra Siddique and Nurin Tasmia Siddique, along with five others.
On May 14, the court also ordered the freezing of Tk 6.79 crore in 13 of their bank accounts, as well as the seizure of 24 bighas of land, five plots, and five flats owned by Tarique Ahmed Siddique and his family members.
