After an excruciating 37-year-long legal battle, 73-year-old Munshi Mohiuddin Ahmed, a freedom fighter from Jashore has finally received justice.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld a High Court directive to Rajshahi University to pay Mohiuddin Tk 18 lakh in compensation鈥攂ringing an end to a decades-long struggle that began in 1988.

Mohiuddin, once the vice-president of the Jashore MM College student union in 1973, took admission in Mashiur Rahman Law College in Jashore town under Rajshahi University in 1985.

He sat for final examination in 1987 and result was published in 1988.

But he failed in civil litigation subject by just a single mark, and was denied his law degree.

Mohiuddin applied for a review of his answer script in 1988 but got reply from 聽Rajshahi University that the script had been destroyed after being 鈥榮old.鈥

Mohiuddin then sued Rajshahi University with the Jashore鈥檚 magistrate court that year, seeking redressal. 聽

The university authorities appealed to the District and Session鈥檚 Judges鈥 Court against the magistrate鈥檚 court verdict favouring Mohiuddin and lost.

The university moved the High Court where Mohiuddin again won in 1999.

The university in 2001 published his result to comply with the High Court verdict, conferring on him a law graduate certificate.

Mohiuddin subsequently enrolled as a lawyer with the Jashoe District Bar Association in 2004.

In 2020 Mohiuddin served a legal notice to the university, seeking Tk 30 lakh compensation as damaging his life.

As the university failed to respond, he filed a writ petition in 2021.

He got a High Court ruling asking the university to explain why he would not be compensated with the amount.

In 2023, the High Court in a verdict asked the university to pay Mohiuddin Tk 18 lakh compensation with 5 per cent interest in two months.

In 2023, the university further challenged the verdict to the Appellate Division which on Sunday dismissed upholding the compensation order.

Mohiuddin鈥檚 son Asif Shariar Ahmed who was lobbying the case in absence of his father, who now cannot move for physical difficulties, told 抖阴精品, 鈥楳y father heard the verdict and uttered 鈥淎lhamdulliah.鈥濃

Sharier expressed satisfaction over the final verdict, stating that he was happy to complete the fight that his father began decades ago. 聽
