All buses in Dhaka city will be run under a single unified system to bring back order on roads and reduce traffic congestion.
The chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on his verified Facebook page announced this on Tuesday night.
The post reads that for a long period the bus sector in Dhaka is running without any control.
Due to this chaotic system the passengers are becoming victims of traffic jam, accidents, additional fares and different sufferings regularly.
Bus journey is very difficult for women, children and the elderly people.
One of the major reasons for traffic congestion in Dhaka is ineffective bus routes.
For traffic gridlock each year around Tk 37,000 crore is being wasted and every day 32 lakh work hours are being wasted.
Considering all these, the post adds, all buses will run under one unified system while the companies will have to follow fixed routes and stoppages.
Currently the city service buses in the capital are running under fragmented ownerships where the drivers and bus staff are being paid based on the number of trips.
Competition among the buses, even among the buses under same ownerships, is a reason behind violation of traffic rules and fatal road accidents.
