A suspected robber was killed and another was injured in a lynch-mob attack in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali district on early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ujjal, of Kanakdia union while the injured was identified as Rajib of Subidkhali in Mirzaganj upazila.
Akteruzzaman Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Baufal police station, said that a group of masked robbers numbering eight to 10 swooped on the house of Jalil Jamaddar, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Malaysia, at about 3:00am at village Kashipur and looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash.
When the same robber gang entered the house of Shohagh Hawladar, local people encircled them and caught two of them while they were trying to flee the scene.
At one stage, they were given a good thrashing, leaving Rajib and Ujjal injured.
They were taken to a local hospital where Ujjal died from his injuries.
