Bereaved guardians of the students, killed after a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed in the compound of Milestone School and College, on Sunday could not submit a memorandum to the education institution’s principal.
The guardians wanted to submit the memorandum containing their demands to the college principal, Mohammad Ziaul Alam, in front of journalists, which he declined.Â
Later the guardians left the campus.
Earlier on August 12, the guardians of the students, killed and injured in the fighter jet crash on July 21, organised a human chain at Diabari roundabout where they raised a nine-point demand charter that included justice and compensation for the victims of the crash, the closure of coaching business at Milestone and all educational institutions, relocation of Milestone or air force runway, and the removal of two Milestone teachers.
They gave the Milestone authorities 72-hour ultimatum to meet their demands.
Shah Alam, father of Saima Akter, a Class III student who was killed in the crash, alleged that instead of giving any reply, the school authorities ran smear campaign against them on social media.
‘Protesting at all of these we went to Milestone in the morning and wanted to submit a memorandum to the college principal in front of journalists,’ he said.Â
Shah Alam said that the security guards at first prevented their entry into the premises, but later gave in, but principal did not meet them.
‘We returned without submitting the memorandum,’ he added.
In a press release, issued on Sunday, the Milestone authorities said that the guardians were being requested to send a representative to submit the memorandum to the principal as classes were being held.
Some of the guardians tried to enter the school without following rules and created an unexpected situation, the release said.
