Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Professor SMA Faiz at a programme in Dhaka on Thursday congratulated 159 Bangladeshi students who received the Erasmus Mundus scholarships in the 2025-26 academic year.

Of these, 109 students have received fully funded scholarships for the two-year joint master’s programme, said a press release on Friday, adding that Bangladeshi students were ranked third among scholarship recipients worldwide.

This information was given at a reception organised for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients organised by the European Union Delegation to Bangladesh at a hotel in Gulshan.

UGC Chairman Professor SMA Faiz was present as the chief guest. European Union ambassador Michael Miller was present as special guest at the event.

The event was attended by Jasmine Parveen, director (current charge) of the International Collaboration Department of the UGC and Erasmus Plus National Focal Point, along with representatives of various EU countries, including France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Denmark and Erasmus Mundus alumni.

Professor SMA Faiz said that this was not only a personal achievement of the students, but also a matter of great pride and honour for the entire nation.

He commented that this proved the students’ talent, determination and their ability to survive in global competition.

Professor Faiz believes that through the Erasmus Plus scholarship, Bangladeshi students will have the opportunity to enhance their capabilities, establish links with various universities in the EU and test their talent in the world.

Michael Miller said that the Erasmus Plus scholarship will create a great opportunity for young Bangladeshi students to enhance their capabilities and find employment.

Bangladesh’s relations with the European Union will be further strengthened through this programme, he added.

The UGC chairman had made a strong appeal to the EU ambassador to increase opportunities for various scholarships, joint research and higher education, including Erasmus Mundus scholarships, for Bangladeshi students in various universities in Europe.

In addition, the UGC’s International Collaboration Department has taken effective steps to increase the participation of Bangladeshi students in the Erasmus Mundus scholarship programme.
