RIM Aminur Rashid

Professor RIM Aminur Rashid, former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University and professor of Dhaka University’s physics department, passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Friday.

Aminur Rashid, 80, left behind two sons.


‘He died at 5.30am on Friday morning,’ said a BOU press release.

Expressing condolence over his death, BOU VC Professor ABM Obaidul Islam said, ‘He was a dedicated educationist and an expert administrator. He left a contribution to the spread of education in the country.’

 Professor Aminur Rashid was buried at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard at Mirpur in Dhaka. 

BOU registrar Shafiqul Alam and dean of the school of sociology humanities and language Professor Tanvir Ahsan, among others, were present at his funeral. 

BOU authorities declared a one-day general holiday to pay respect to Professor Aminur Rashid, who was a VC of the BOU from January 25, 2009 to January 24, 2013.
