The police have taken special security measures for 11 days between July 29 and August 8, fearing that the ousted fascist force might create countrywide anarchy during anti-fascist programmes marking the first anniversary of the July uprising.

They feared that the fascist forces might create anarchy through online and offline publicity and by creating obstacles to deteriorate the law and order situation during the celebration.

The Special Branch of the Bangladesh Police in a letter on Monday asked Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner, deputy inspector general of police of the city special branch in Dhaka, the superintendents of police in all districts, district special branches and railway special branches, deputy police commissioners of city special branch in Barishal, Gazipur, Rangpur and Sylhet, special superintendent of police in city special branches of Rajshahi, Chattogram and Dhaka to take special measures during the time to keep the law and order situation normal.

The directives include conducting special drives from July 29 to August 8, regular search on suspected  personal motorcycle, microbus and other vehicles, ensuring special security in bus terminals, launch ghats, rail stations and airports and their surrounding areas, drives to arrests wanted accused, strengthening mobile patrolling and increasing intelligence activities through cyber patrolling to contain rumours, according to the letter signed by the SB’s deputy inspector general for political wing, on behalf of the SB chief.

The letter also said that many anti-fascist political parties and social organisations would hold programmes for the July uprising celebrations and asked the units to protect government and private establishments, along with keeping the law and order situation normal.

A deputy inspector general of police told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Tuesday that they had issued the letter marking the National Citizen Party rally in Gazipur and the celebration of the first anniversary of the July uprising in Dhaka and its adjoining areas.
