Home adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday said that they were taking time to submit charge sheets in cases filed in connection with the July-August mass uprising to avoid harassment of anyone innocent.

‘Through investigations are required in the cases filed after August 5, 2024 as a huge number of people were accused in the cases. This is why it is taking time to submit charge sheets in the cases,’ he said.

He made the remarks, responding to a question over the cases related to the atrocities during the July-August mass uprising, while talking to reporters during a visit to Narayanganj Police Lines.

‘We are taking time so that we can keep innocent people free from facing harassment,’ he said.

The home adviser said that there would be no conflict between the government and the political parties.

‘We are working to improve the country’s law and order situation. We are working so that the country’s people can pass days in peace. On the other hand, political parties will try to bring voters with their own capacities,’ said Jahangir.

Asked about the measures to recover the looted firearms after August 5, 2024 to ensure a peaceful general election, Jahangir said they were wholeheartedly trying to recover all the looted firearms.

‘Many more looted firearms may be recovered before the election,’ he hoped.
