A man was hacked to death in broad daylight, allegedly by members of a rival group at Mohammadpur in Dhaka Saturday afternoon.
The deceased, Fazle Rabbi Sumon, 25, was a resident of Borhanuddin of Bhola, the police said, adding that ongoing enmity between Sumon and the attackers might have led the killing.
Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that the incident occurred at about 1:45pm in front of the gate-1 of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial at Rayer Bazar.
Sumon had an enmity with the attackers and had been staying away from the area, he said, adding that the reason of the enmity could not be confirmed immediately.
‘The members of the rival group reportedly spotted him on Saturday afternoon as he recently returned to Rayer Bazar and attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured,’ he said.
He was first taken to Shikder Medical College Hospital and was later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at about 3:30pm, Iftekhar said.
‘The attackers hacked him in the leg and he died of excess bleeding,’ he said.
The police are trying to identify and arrest the attackers, added the police officer.
