Leaders of three social organisations blocked the road in front of Nagar Bhaban in Sylhet city, protesting against businesses encroaching on footpaths and illegal car parking on streets across the city under the support of local administration and vested interests.

Leaders of the Sylhet Welfare Association, Sylhet Divisional Youth Welfare Association and Sylhet Expatriate Welfare Association held sit-in and protest rally in front of Sylhet City Corporation at around 11:00am.


They also blocked the road lying in front of the Nagar Bhaban to press home their demands.

The speakers in the protest rally said that makeshift shops and parking cars on streets have been causing regular traffic congestion in the city.

The organisations’ leaders also said that they would go for a tough movement on August 13, if effective steps were not taken to meet their demands by that time.

Sylhet Welfare Association president Mohammad Ehsanul Haque Taher, Sylhet Divisional Youth Welfare Association president Mukhter Ahmed Talukder, its general secretary Humaun Rashid Chowdhury, metropolitan unit organising secretary Mohammad Sazzad Khan,

Sylhet Expatriate Welfare Association leader Md Aminul Islam, Student Movement Against Discrimination leader Tofayel Chowdhury and Md Ibrahim Miah, among others, addressed the rally.
