The Bangladesh Nationalist Party affiliated organisations—Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal—have expelled four members in connection with the brutal killing of Mohammad Sohag, who was hacked and beaten to death in broad daylight outside Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on July 9.
In separate statements issued on Friday evening, the three bodies announced the permanent expulsion of former Jubo Dal central committee assistant secretary for climate affairs Razzab Ali Pintu, Dhaka South unit Jubo Dal joint convener Sabah Karim Laki, Chhatra Dal’s Chawkbazar Thana unit member secretary Apu Das and member of Swechchhasebak Dal Kalu, also known as Swechchhasebak Kalu.
Jubo Dal central president Abdul Monayem and general secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam stated that the organisation would not take responsibility for the misdeeds of those expelled.
They also directed all Jubo Dal members to sever any organisational ties with the four individuals.
Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam and general secretary Nasir Uddin, in their separate statements, called on the authorities to take legal action against Apu Das and ensure exemplary punishment for his involvement in the crime.
In a separate statement, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condemned the murder of Mohammad Sohag, describing it as a chilling act that had deeply shaken the conscience of the nation.
‘This heinous killing is not just the tragic loss of a life—it is a stark reflection of the breakdown of public security, citizens’ rights, and the rule of law,’ he said.
Fakhrul said that no individual, regardless of their identity, should be above the law.
He said that the brutal incident, which occurred after the fall of the Awami fascist government through a mass uprising of July–August, had deeply shaken the conscience of the nation.
Fakhrul warned that failure to deliver exemplary justice for such a horrific act would reinforce a culture of impunity and push society into deeper darkness.
He called on the interim government to ensure a transparent, impartial, and credible investigation, and to bring the real perpetrators to justice without delay.
