
Three men, who are leaders and activists of three organisations associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, have been accused of raping a housewife and torturing her husband early Monday at a village of Tajumuddin upazila in Bhola.
The survivor’s husband filed a case with the Tajumuddin police on Monday against seven individuals, naming three men.
The accused in the case are Md Rasel Ahmed, president of Tajumuddin Government College unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the BNP, Md Farid Uddin, joint general secretary of Tajumuddin upazila unit Sramik Dal, labour organisation of the party, and Md Alauddin, activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the party’s youth wing. Referring to the case statement, Tajumuddin police officer-in-charge Mohabbat Khan said that the husband had four wives one of which, Jharna Begum, 40, hired a gang to rape the 25 year-old victim. They also tortured the husband, the case statement said.
‘We are trying to arrest the accused,’ the officer-in-charge said.
BNP Bhola district unit member secretary Raisul Alam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he came to know about the allegations from the district Juba Dal president over phone on Tuesday.
‘I directed Juba Dal president to take strong organisational action against him,’ he said.
