The police arrested two more suspects between Monday night and Tuesday morning in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old garment factory worker, who was beaten to death on theft allegations inside a factory in Gazipur’s Konabari.

The arrested are Bellal Hossain Belal, 43, and Shafiqul Islam, 30, who worked as security guards at the factory.

Rapid Action Battalion officer KMA Mamun Khan said that Belal was arrested from Chandana area under the Basan police in Gazipur city at about 11:00am Tuesday.

Konabari police officer-in-charge Salah Uddin said that Shafiqul was detained on Monday night based on secret information.

‘We confirmed his involvement after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident. He was later sent to jail after being produced in court today,’ he said on Tuesday.

Earlier, the police arrested a 28-year-old man named Hasan Mahmud Mithun at a location in Gazipur city on Sunday night in a case filed over the killing.

Md Hridoy, 19, a mechanic at readymade garment factory Greenland Garments Limited, was tortured inside the factory for hours since June 25 afternoon and was sent to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead in the early hours of June 26.

The victim’s elder brother, Liton Mia, filed the case with the Konabari policeon Saturday night against unidentified individuals, accusing them of planned murder and concealing the body.

Hridoy’s death sparked protests among the workers and led to an indefinite closure of the factory since Sunday.

Several photos and videos that went viral on social media showed bloody and dark bruises on Hridoy’s knees, waist, back, wrists, elbows, fingernails, neck, and face.
