At least a man died of Covid and 10 others were infected with the COVID-19 in the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Friday in the country.

A press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services said that the sexagenarian man died at a hospital in the capital.


Including the latest, 20 people died of Covid, while 528 were infected with the virus this year.

At least eight people died of Covid in Dhaka and 9 other died in Chattogram and three in Khulna this year.

Coronavirus was first detected in the country on March 8, 2020.

So far, 29,519 people have died of the disease in the country, with the cumulative number of Covid-19 patients reaching 20,52,073.

The DGHS issued a warning about the rise of new COVID-19 omicron sub-variants, potentially triggering a fresh wave of infections, in the past week.

The directorate in its 11-point directive urged people to avoid public gatherings, wear face masks and practise frequent handwashing.

DGHS director general Md Abu Jafor also advised booster doses for individuals over 18, pregnant women and people with a weak immune system, urging them to visit vaccination centres.
