Among the 19 deaths, Chattogram reported nine, Dhaka seven, and Khulna three.

Bangladesh first detected Covid-19 on March 8, 2020.

So far, 29,518 people have died of the disease in the country, according to the official account.

Last week, the DGHS issued a warning about the rise of new Covid-19 Omicron sub-variants, potentially triggering a fresh wave of infections.

The DGHS introduced an 11-point directive urging people to avoid public gatherings, wear face masks and practice frequent handwashing.

Due to the rising infection rates in India and increasing domestic positivity, DGHS emphasised precautionary measures.

Director General Md Abu Jafor also advised booster doses for individuals over 18, pregnant women, seniors, and people with weakened immunity, urging them to visit vaccination centres.

Public awareness, however, about the fresh outbreak of the disease remains visibly low till now as most people in public places are seen without face masks, and disregarding other cautionary measures.

The government also has taken no measures so far to impose the DGHS directives.
