Rashidul Islam, also known as Rifat Rashid, and Sheikh Enamul Hasan, known as Hasan Enam, were elected as the new president and general secretary of Students Against Discrimination, a platform that led the July uprising.

They were elected by the voters at the first central council of the SAD held at the platform central office in the capital’s Rupayan Tower at Banglamotor on Wednesday.

Besides, Moinul Islam was elected as the organising secretary and Sinthiya Zaheen Ayesha was elected as the spokesperson for the platform.

The chief election commissioner, Lutfar Rahman, announced the results after the voting.

The SAD led the July uprising that ousted the authoritarian Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

Most of the central leaders of the platform, including Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah and Abdul Hannan Masud left the platform and formed the National Citizen Party after the uprising.
