Authorities disconnected power supplies to 35 illegal stone crushers in Sylhet鈥檚 Sadar and Jaintapur upazilas during separate drives on Monday.

A taskforce, accompanied by joint forces, cut electricity to 30 crushers in Dhopagul area under Biman Bandar police station between 12.00pm and 3:00pm, removing their metres.


Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam said that

executive magistrate Marina Devnath led the operation.

In Jaintapur, a team, led by upazila administration executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) Farzana Akter Laboni, disconnected five crushers in Lakshipur area and seized operating tools.

The crackdown follows Saturday鈥檚 warning by power, energy and mineral resources adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, who vowed action against illegal crushers during a visit to Jaflong, an ecologically sensitive tourist hub in Sylhet.
