
At least 10 people were killed and 36 others injured in road accidents in eight districts, namely Gopalganj, Madaripur, Barishal, Sylhet, Bogura, Narsingdi, Nilphamari and Sherpur, on Sunday.聽聽
In Gopalganj, a traffic police officer and a bus driver鈥檚 assistant were killed and at least 25 others injured in a chain of road accidents involving six vehicles on the Dhaka-Khulna highway, reports the United News of Bangladesh.
The deceased were identified as Rafiquzzman, assistant traffic sub-inspector of Bhatiapara Highway Police, and Selim Hossain Bepari, a bus driver鈥檚 assistant from Khulna city.
All the injured have been admitted to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.
Gopalganj Sadar police officer-in-charge Mir Md Sajedur Rahman said that a Khulna-bound bus of Baleshwar Paribahan, coming from Dhaka鈥檚 Jatrabari, rammed into a parked truck from behind in Gopinath area around 4:00am.
Moments later, three more buses, including one from Arman Paribahan, and a microbus ploughed into the accident-hit bus from behind, leading to further damage and casualties.
In Madaripur, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that two motorcyclists were killed in separate road accidents in Shibchar and Kalkini upazilas.
One of the deceased was identified as Imran Siddique, 25, of Chumurdi in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur. The identity of the other could not be known immediately.聽
Imran died on the spot when his bike hit a roadside railing as he lost control over it at Bamankanda of Shibchar upazila on Dhaka-Bhanga Highway, said Shibchar Highway Police sub-Inspector Abdus Salam.
In the other incident, an unidentified man died on the spot when a bus hit his motorbike from opposite direction near Bhurghata bus stand on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Kalkini upazila.
In Barishal, motorcyclist Zahid Hasan, 29, died on the spot after his motorbike was hit by a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus in Gournadi upazila, 抖阴精品 correspondent in Barishal reports.聽
Deceased Zahid was from Talukdarkandi village in Shibchar. His body was handed over to his family without a post-mortem examination as requested by the family, said Gournadi Highway Police officer-in-charge Aminur Rahman.
In Sylhet, a motorcyclist was killed and another injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with their vehicle on Goainghat-Bangabir Road at Goainghat upazila, 抖阴精品 staff correspondent in Sylhet reports.
Deceased Nazim Uddin, 25, was from Manaur village of Goainghat, and the injured was Layek Ahmed, 23, said Goainghat police officer-in-charge Sarker Tofayel Ahmed.
In Bogura, a truck driver was killed in a head-on collision with another truck in Chakkanu Bazar area of Haripur in Shibganj upazila, BSS reports.
Deceased Jamir Uddin, 45, was from Jhargram in Jhenaidah district.
In Narsingdi, a teenage girl was killed and at least 10 others injured when a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and after that crashed into a microbus at Chaksal crossing on the Panchdona-Ghorashal regional highway in Sadar upazila, BSS reports.
Deceased Trisha Akhter, 13, was daughter of Selim Mia of Bashgari in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.
In Nilphamari, Azizul Islam, 25, a resident of Barogharia village in Kundapukur union, was killed when a motorcycle hit a battery-run rickshaw van he was riding on at a spot in Sadar upazila on Nilphamari-Saidpur Road, BSS reports.
In Sherpur, Majnu Mia, a retired army man, was killed when a bus hit his motorbike in Howrah area of Bhatshala union in Sadar upazila, according to BSS reports.
