Scientists and staff of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission hold mass gathering for restoring autonomy in all the institutions under the BAEC on Wednesday | Press release

The scientists and staff of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission held mass gathering for restoring autonomy in all the institutions under the BAEC, at the head office of the commission in Dhaka on Wednesday.

As part of the ongoing movement to restore the autonomy of the commission and implement the 11-point demands in protest against various types of unwanted interference and authoritarian behavior of the Ministry of Science and Technology, scientists, officials and employees from all levels of the commission鈥檚 in Dhaka and Savar participated in the mass gathering, said a press release.

Since April 22, there has been a continuous sit-in programme, public signature collection, wearing of black badges and finally on May 4, a memorandum with the signatures of 1,613 people was submitted to the chief adviser.

The memorandum submitted highlights the existing problems of the commission and seeks the intervention of the chief adviser in a rational solution to all these problems. But no action has been taken by the concerned authorities in this regard till date, added the press release.

Such indifference of the authorities to resolve the deadlock of this largest research institution of the country is angering the scientists, officers and employees of the institution and worrying the science conscious society of the country.

They also hope that the government will take appropriate and effective measures soon. The programme of the movement will continue until the 11-point demand is implemented and strict programmes will be taken in future, said the press release.
