Morshed Ononto Islam, one of the 20 death-row convicts in the case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology student Abrar Fahad murder, on Monday appealed seeking his acquittal of the murder charges.
His defence counsel Azizur Rahman Dulu said that his client showed 10 reasons in support of his acquittal.
Morshed sought acquittal of the murder charges saying that there was no expert opinion in support of his presence on the crime site, the High Court verdict did not reply to the defence鈥檚 allegation that the trial court concocted the evidence of four witnesses to establish his presence, the High Court showed him as confessing accused despite he had no confessional statement before the magistrate.
The High Court bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdict on March 16, upholding the death sentences for the 20 convicts and dismissing the appeals of five others who were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Other death-row convicts, however, are yet to appeal against the High Court鈥檚 verdict.
Each of the convicts will get 30 days from the date of receiving the certified copy of the HC verdict.
