Artificial intelligence has been given top priority in the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo where 3,200 companies from 60 countries are displaying their products at the Nanning Convention and Exhibition Centre in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the southern China.

The five-day expo began on Wednesday with the theme — Digital Intelligence and Innovation Empower Development — Leveraging China-Asean FTA 3.0: New Opportunities for an Even Closer China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future, which will end on September 21.


A large number of visitors, buyers and sellers were seen thronging the venue on the inaugural day where the biggest pavilion was showcasing AI and robotics products.

iFLYTEK, an artificial intelligence company, has developed a multilingual translator which can translate 13 langagues, including Chinese, English, Japanese, Vietnamese, French and Spanish in real time.

‘We have so far developed 13 languages and many projects are under construction. Works of all major languages will be completed by the end of this year,’ said Xu Ke Liang, senior brand manager of Brand Market Centre at iFLYTEK.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Chinese vice-president Han Zheng said that China was ready to work with ASEAN countries to pursue harmonious coexistence and win-win cooperation, and take a more proactive attitude and more practical steps to advance the building of the China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and contribute more to peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region.

‘We have fully concluded the negotiations on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement 3.0, and continued to advance regional economic integration and economic and trade cooperation. In 2024, bilateral trade in goods approached $1 trillion, cementing our status as each other’s largest trading partner for the fifth consecutive year, and two-way investment exceeded $450 billion dollars in total,’ he added.

The inaugural ceremony began with cultural performance where secretary general of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn, Vietnam deputy prime minister Mai Van Chinh, Malaysia’s deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof and Myanmar prime minister U Nyo Saw, among others, were present.

Myanmar is the guest of honour of this year’s expo.
