A sacked Bangladesh Army soldier was arrested over allegations of attacking a serving member of the force with locally made sharp weapons in Battola Bazar area at Khilhet in the capital on Saturday afternoon and over planning a massive sabotage at an entrance of the Dhaka Cantonment.
The Inter Services Public Relation Directorate in a press release on Saturday also said that Md Naimul Islam, who was fired from the force for breaching discipline, was plotting a massive sabotage at an entrance of the Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday and was making provocations on social media in this regard.
Another ISPR press release later on the day said that any kinds of demonstration, meeting, procession and rally have been banned on Kochukhet Road, Bijoy Sarani via the Chief Adviser鈥檚 Office and in areas beside Birsreshtha Shaheed Jahangir Gate, BAF Shaheen College to Mohakhali聽 Flyover, Bhasantek, Matikata and ECB Chattwar until further notice to ensure 鈥榩ublic movement and discipline鈥.
When army representatives went to Khilkhet to stop the anti-disciplinary activities at about 2:00pm on Saturday, Naimul along with his two associates attacked a serving member of the Bangladesh Army with sharp weapons, said an ISPR release.
The release stated that a patrol team from the nearest army camp went to the spot immediately and detained Naimul and his two associates.
Naimul has been plotting sabotages with a group of sacked army members and making inciting statements on mass media and social media after August 5, 2024, said one of the ISPR press releases.
The ISPR stated that Naimul was sacked from the force for demanding dowry from his wife and torturing her physically and mentally.
The ISPR further said that the process for taking legal action in this regard is under way.
More than 500 sacked members of the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy, and the Bangladesh Air Force have been demanding that the interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and the chiefs of the three forces reinstate them in their jobs after a neutral investigation following the August 5 political changeover that ousted the Sheikh Hasina regime.
The fired members of the forces, under the banner of 鈥淪ahajoddha鈥 (fellow fighters), alleged that the fascist Awami League government had illegally sacked them because of their alleged political identity and on fake allegations of their taking drugs and involvement in extramarital affairs.
Naimul was the coordinator of the platform Sahajoddha.
