An office order of their suspension, signed by Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project director and Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited managing director Md. Jahedul Hasan, was sent via an email at around 12 midnight past Tuesday, saying that the suspensions would take effect from Wednesday.

Earlier, on May 8, the NPCBL issued an order dismissing 18 other officials and employees from their jobs at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The suspended employees are: three assistant managers of the company Iktiar Uddin Mohammad Biplob, Shamim Ahmed, and Md. Salahuddin; senior assistant manager Md Monir; senior deputy assistant manager Md. Hossainuzzaman Khan; government manager Md. Golam Azam; and technicians Riyazuddin and Md. Ismail Hossain.

According to the office order, they have been temporarily suspended as per Regulation 44.1 of the Service Regulation 2025.

Confirming the matter, Ruhul Quddus, site office in-charge of the Rooppur project, said that eight officials and employees of the project have been temporarily suspended for breaching discipline and violating service rules, and they have been attached to the security and physical protection services department at the Green City office.

A 鈥榮how cause鈥 notice has also been issued to each of them.

The notice sent to them via email said, 鈥楽ince it has been found that you have engaged in anti-disciplinary or subversive activities at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project site and at NPCBL, or have neglected your duties or committed misconduct, you are hereby directed to state in writing within 10 working days why disciplinary action should not be taken against you and whether you want an opportunity for a personal hearing.鈥

About 1,800 officers and employees of the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited started a movement in Rooppur of Ishwardi on April 28 to press for various demands, including the removal of the managing director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

On May 6, they held a human chain and press conference in Ishwardi town. On May 7, they staged a sit-in at the company鈥檚 office at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.

Against this backdrop, the NPCBL authorities on May 7 issued a letter to them asking them to comply with the service rules and company laws. As they refused to comply with the order, 18 officials and employees of the company were dismissed from their jobs the next day.

A suspended engineer on condition of anonymity said that they all worked efficiently in the organisation, adding that these actions are being taken against them for making just demands.

They strongly condemn and protest against it, the engineer said.

Attempts to contact the project director and the managing director by mobile phones in this regard were unsuccessful.
