The government has formed a five-member committee to restructure the Rapid Action Battalion.
Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury came up with the information at a press briefing held at the Secretariat.
The committee will be led by Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz, special assistant to the chief adviser, and will focus on reforming the elite force’s structure and operational framework.
The home adviser also disclosed that a decision has been made prohibiting police personnel from using deadly weapons.
‘From now on, police will not be allowed to use deadly weapons,’ he said.
The decisions came during a high-level meeting on the law and order situation held earlier in the day at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
