
Rail communications amongst Bangladesh capital Dhaka and Chattogram, Sylhet, Noakhali and Khulna remained suspended for several hours following two incidents of derailment on Friday night.
Two committees were formed to probe the incidents while no casualties were reported soon after the incidents, said officials of Bangladesh Railway.
Stranded passengers in different trains and stations faced immense suffering.Â
Bangladesh Railway’s Dhaka divisional railway manager Mohiuddin Arif said that a wagon of a container train stranded near the Brahmanbaria rail station at about 10:45pm on Friday after it started from the station towards Dhaka.
Movement of trains on both lines, from and towards Dhaka, was immediately suspended following the derailment, he said.
Arif said that rail links amongst Dhaka and Chattogram, Sylhet and Noakhali were restored at about 4:45am on Saturday.
A probe committee was formed to investigate the incident, he said.
The officer also said that on Friday night Khulna-bound Jahanabad Express started from Dhaka.
When the train reached Bhanga area in Faridpur its locomotive and a compartment were derailed at about 9:30pm on Friday, he continued.
Rail link between Dhaka and Khulna was restored at about 9:00am on Saturday, he said, adding that a separate probe committee was formed to investigate the Bhanga incident.
Replying to a question if these incidents were act of sabotage, Mohiuddin Arif said that probe committees would find out the reasons behind the derailments.
