Two individuals, including a teenager, were killed and several others injured in a clash between two rival groups at Raipura in Narsingdi on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Saiful Islam, 17, and Fahad Mia, 20, both hailed from Nazarpur village of Chanderkandi union of the upazila.
Raipura police station officer-in-charge Adil Mahmud said that the incident occurred in the Nazarpur area of the upazila in the early morning on Tuesday.
According to the police and local people, there was a longstanding dispute between Abid Hasan Rubel, a member of the upazila Juba League, and Harun-or-Rashid, vice-president of the Raipura municipal unit of the Awami League, over dominance in the locality.
Adil said that additional police were deployed at the scene and legal procedure was underway regarding the incident.
On Tuesday, supporters of two groups, armed with sharp weapons and firearms, engaged in a violent clash, leaving Saiful dead on the spot and several others injured.
Injured Fahad was rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and later was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Fahad died at about 11:30am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
