A court in Pabna on Sunday sent a youth to jail for raping a student of Government Edward College in the district.
Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman of the court sent the accused Shimul, 27, to jail after the police produced him before the court on Sunday.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Shimul at his aunt鈥檚 house in Naodapara area of 鈥嬧�婦ashuria under Ishwardi in the district on Saturday. He is a resident of Jagannathpur Balurkhad area in 鈥嬧�媡he upazila.
Ishwardi police station sub-inspector Shariful Islam said that during the initial interrogation, Shimul confessed to his relationship with the victim. 鈥楬e was sent to jail through the court on Sunday.鈥�
According to the police, the girl met Shimul through social media two years ago. She was forcibly raped by Shimul against her will by luring with the promise of marriage at a park of Muladuli under Ishwardi on November 25 in the past year.
The report also stated that after more than a month, it was found that the victim was pregnant, and she informed the accused about the matter and pressured to get her married.
Demanding marriage, the victim also went to the house of the accused鈥檚 father and went on a hunger strike there, but Shimul refused to marry her.
