
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to provide all evidence on the power purchase agreement with Adani Group.
The ACC director general Md Akhter Hossain gave this information at a press briefing at its head office, saying that allegations were raised to evade tax worth Tk 4,500 crore against the deal with Adani for electricity import.
He said the commission has sent a letter to the chairman of BPDB asking for important records and information about the power purchase agreement with Adani.
The director general said the ACC has started an investigation into allegations of the agreement regarding tax evasion by bypassing the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Deputy director and investigation officer Rezaul Karim signed the letter, he added.
According to the letter, the investigation is underway against former power division secretary Ahmad Kaikaus and concerned authorities of BPDB for allegedly evading the government鈥檚 duty of Tk 4,500 crore through the contract with Adani by bypassing the NBR.
The letter also said that the BPDB was requested to provide the required records within five working days of receiving the letter for the sake of fair investigation.
