The Bangladesh Tennis Federation on Sunday appointed Thailand’s Pattaratorn Passara as coach for a two-month period ahead of the national team’s preparation for three international meets.
The Bangladesh TT team is set to participate in the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in October, the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia in November, and the South Asian Games in Pakistan in January 2026.
This will be the first time that the 25-year old Passara will work as a national team coach, and BTTF might extend his contract if they are satisfied with his performance.Ìý
Passara will train 32 players (16 men and 16 women), who are currently available at the camp, and will trim the size of the players to 20 members on August 8. He will also train eight players of the under-17 boys and girls teams.
After failing to manage a Chinese coach, BTTF roped in Passara, who was ranked 314th in the ITTF world rankings in April 2022 and was part of Thailand's gold medal-winning men's team at the Southeast Asian Championships in 2022.
‘Some of our promising players will start working under him [Passara], and the rest will continue training under our local coaches,’ BTTF general secretary and former paddler Maksud Ahmed Sonnet told the media.
