The Rapid Action Battalion arrested the accused on charges of forcibly raping a girl at Pirganj in Rangpur from Azimpur area in Dhaka on Friday.
The arrested, Md Shimul Mia, 27, is a resident of Pirganj Thana Para area, said a press release on Saturday.
A joint operational team of RAB-13鈥檚 Crime Prevention Specialised Company in Rangpur and RAB-10鈥檚 CPSC in Lalbagh in Dhaka in a raid arrested the accused at the Azimpur area.
Earlier, the accused had been proposing love to the victim from the same area. When the victim did not agree to his proposal, he threatened the victim and her family with great harm, a press release said.
On April 4, 2025, the accused tactfully took the victim from Gourishwerpur Bazar under Pirganj and forcibly raped her by tempting her with marriage.
Subsequently, the victim filed a rape case with Pirganj police station on April 5, 2025.
Shimul Mia has been handed over to the Pirganj police station for further legal action, the press release added.
