
A youth was allegedly stabbed to death during a dispute over establishing dominance at Dakshin Raghabpur Sweeper Colony in the Ananta area in Pabna town on Wednesday night.
The deceased, Arafat Hossain, 18, is a resident of the town.
According to the police and local people, Arafat had a dispute with some followers of local former union parishad member Shaheed over establishing supremacy in the area.
Arafat was allegedly attacked and stabbed by the followers of Shaheed at about 10:30pm at Dogachi Bazar.
They said that Arafat and Shaheed were activists of Dogachi union unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Local people rescued Arafat and took him to Pabna General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Later, the relatives and followers of the deceased allegedly attacked the house of the former UP member, vandalised it and set it on fire.
Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of the Pabna police station, said, ‘Initially, we have learnt that the murder took place due to a dispute over establishing dominance.’
After the incident, the house of the Shaheed was attacked, vandalised and set on fire, the officer added.
On information, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, the OC said, adding that action will be taken in this regard after investigating the incident.
The former UP member could not be reached for his comment despite repeated attempts over the phone.
