A voluntary daylong blood donation programme was held at the Presidency University campus in Dhaka recently.

Organised by the Presidency University’s Social Service Club, this noble initiative aimed to instill humanitarian awareness among students and support Thalassemia and other patients.


The Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation co-hosted the programme. University’s Students Affairs division supported organization of the programme successfully.

The daylong event was coordinated by Professor Shahidul Islam Khan (Nayeem), dean of the School of Engineering and Moderator of the PU Social Service Club.

From 9:00am to 5:00pm, students, faculty members, and staff enthusiastically participated in the blood donation drive.

The Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation arranged special benefits for donors, including free blood tests (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Syphilis, Malaria, Anti-HBcAB), donor cards, commemorative wristbands, refreshments, and special water bottles.

During the inaugural speech, Professor Md Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of Presidency University, stated:

‘Blood donation is a noble act. Such initiatives by students will bring about positive changes in society. Presidency University will continue its humanitarian efforts in the future.’

The presence of Professor Mohammad Anwarul Kabir, principal adviser of Presidency University, served as a great inspiration for the blood donors. Additionally, faculty deans, department heads, the Controller of Examinations, the Head of Student Affairs, and other officials were present at the event.

Representing the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, Professor Syeda Masooma Rahman, vice-chairman, and Momotaj Jahan Koli, assistant manager (Donor Relations and Partnership Development) delivered their speeches.

At the conclusion of the event, the Presidency University Social Service Club presented a crest to the Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation in recognition of their significant contribution to humanitarian efforts.

‘One bag of blood can save a life.’ — With this motto, the blood donation program was successfully concluded. Let us all join hands and move forward for the sake of humanity.
