The authorities of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology on Wednesday took disciplinary actions against 48 students, including the permanent expulsion of four leaders and activists of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, on various charges, including attacking protesters during the July-August uprising and cheating in examinations.
The decision was made on Wednesday at a meeting of the university disciplinary committee with vice-chancellor SM Abdur Razzak in the chair, said Robiul Islam Sarker, director of the RUET Student Welfare.
He said that they made the decision following probe committee recommendations, as the committee found that the accused students had violated the university鈥檚 disciplinary ordinance.
The expelled students are RUET BCL president Fahmid Latif Lion, general secretary Soumik Saha, and leaders Shashwata Saha Sagor and Mrinmoy Kanti Bishwas.
Robiul said that the disciplinary committee also requested the university authorities to take legal actions against assistant engineer and former RUET BCL president Naim Rahman Nibir, data processor Mahidul Islam and sub-assistant programmer AKM Anwarul Islam as the probe committee found them guilty.
He said that the committee also decided to expel and take legal actions against those students from whose room weapons, drugs and other prohibited substances were recovered during a drive on August 19.
Robiul said that they had also expelled two students for four semesters (two academic years) for cheating in examinations.
