A five-year-old girl died as fire gutted a house at West Sukhdeb village under Rajarhat in Kurigram on Friday.
The deceased, Irin, was daughter of Al Amin.
According to fire service and police, Alamin鈥檚 family had locked Irin inside the house before leaving for a religious gathering called waz mahfil in a nearby area.
When the fire started, people of the area informed the fire service but the blaze had gutted the entire house before they reached the spot, leaving Irin dead inside it.
Abu Taher, station officer of Rajarhat Fire Service, said that the poor road condition delayed their response.
Firefighters suspected the fire originated from an electrical short circuit.
Rajarhat police station officer-in-charge Taslim Uddin said that the child鈥檚 body was handed over to the family for burial.
