Politicians on Wednesday at a discussion said that a consensus among political parties was needed before bringing reforms to the constitution by the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Rastra Sanskar Andolan, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha and July 36 Forum jointly organised the discussion titled ‘No reform is possible without negotiations’ at the National Press Club where chief coordinator of the party, Hasnat Quaiyum, chaired.


Central leader of the party Syed Hasib Uddin Hossain read out the keynote paper at the dialogue where he said that a broad political consensus must be reached before initiating reforms of the constitution by the interim government.

He proposed formation of a ‘negotiation council’ comprising of political parties before the reforms of the constitution.

Hasnat Quaiyum said that the political parties supporting the July uprising should assist the interim government in bringing about reforms in the constitution to make it democratic.

Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Huq said that the political parties should continue to uphold national unity until the reforms were performed by the interim government.

Zahir Uddin Shapon, an adviser to Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, said that the political parties had already reached a consensus for carrying out reforms of the constitution which should be performed after the next general election.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon, Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel, Amar Bangladesh Party chairman Mujibur Rahman Monju, Nagarik Oikya central leader Saqeeb Anwar, Bhashani Onusari Parishad Abu Yusuf Selm, NDM secretary general Mohammad Mominul Amin, July 36 central leader MNA Shahin and Rastra Sanskar Andolan   central leader Didarul Bhuiyan also took part in the discussion.
