The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed a case against Kamal Hossain, now serving as the upazila nirbahi officer of Atrai in Naogaon, on charges of fraud and misuse of the freedom fighter quota to secure government job.

ACC deputy assistant director Monjurul Islam filed the case with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1, said ACC director general Aktar Hossain.

According to the case statement, Kamal Hossain falsified his identity by listing his paternal uncle, freedom fighter Ahsan Habib, and his aunt, Mosammat Sanowara Khatun, as his parents instead of his biological parents, Abul Kashem and Habiya Khatun.

The forgery allowed him to claim benefits under the freedom fighter quota, including admission to universities and a coveted position in the administration cadre under the 35th Bangladesh Civil Service examination.

The ACC inquiry found that while attending school up to Class VIII, Kamal listed his biological father, Abul Kashem, as his father in official records.

Starting from Class IX, however, he altered his documents to list his uncle and aunt as his parents.

Kamal continued the misrepresentation in his Secondary School Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate, higher education certificates, birth certificates, and national ID, systematically fabricating his identity to benefit from the freedom fighter quota.

This manipulation enabled him to secure a position in the administration cadre of the BCS under false pretences, said the case statement.

The alleged crimes occurred between 1996 and December 2017.
