
A senior judicial magistrate court in Narayanganj on Sunday placed the three accused on two-day remand each in a case filed over the death of a Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology student who was killed after being hit by a car in Purbachal upazila of Narayanganj.
The accused are Mubin Al Mamun, 20, the driver and son of a former army officer, Md Merajul Karim, 22, son of Rizwanul Karim of Pirerbagh, and Md Asif Chowdhury, 19, son of Bahauddin Chowdhury Baker of Uttara sector 13.
Senior judicial magistrate Kazi Nur Mohsin passed the order as the police produced the three before the court seeking five-day remand for each, said court inspector Kaiyum Khan.
The court ordered the investigating officer to interrogate the accused in the next three working days, he said.
On Friday, police submitted the remand prayer after the three were produced before the court, which set Sunday for a hearing on the petition.
The deceased, Mohtassim Masud, 22, a student of the computer science and engineering department of BUET, along with the two injured — Amit Saha, 22, and Mehedi Hasan, 22, — was standing at a police checkpoint on the 300 Feet Road at Purbachal when the car hit the three classmates at about 3:00am on December 20.
Mubin, the driver could not provide any document after he was asked to show his driving licence, police said, adding that Mubin and Merajul were tested positive in the dope test for alcohol.
Another case, meanwhile, was filed against the three accused on Saturday night under the Narcotics Control Act, police said.
