A man was burnt to death and three others were injured in a fire that broke out at the warehouse of M and U Trims button factory located in Bhangnahati Mollapara area of Sripur in Gazipur on Sunday afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Sripur police station officer-in-charge Md Zainul Abedin said that identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.


‘The body was recovered from inside the factory. Most of the workers were out for their lunch break at the time of the fire,’ he said.

At least three people were injured in the fire, Gazipur fire service deputy assistant director Mohammad Al Mamun said, adding that identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

Three injured were transferred to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Dr Sushmita of Sripur Upazila Health Complex.

Local people said that the fire broke out in a chemical storage warehouse beside the factory shortly after workers went on their lunch break.

The fire originated at the warehouse of the factory at about 1:30pm and was fully doused at about 5:40pm nearly after four hours, said Khairul Islam, station officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence.

‘A total of seven units of firefighters worked to douse the blaze. The fire originated from a chemical explosion in the factory,’ he added.
