The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit on Sunday summoned bank account details of 11 people, including 10 journalists.

The BFIU sent letters to various banks of the country seeking information regarding the 11 people, said BFIU officials.


The financial intelligence agency of the central bank asked the banks whether there were any bank lockers, savings cards, credit cards, and other financial instruments in their names.

The 11 people are Dainik Bangla acting editor Chowdhury Jafarullah Sharafat, former president of the National Press Club Shafiqur Rahman, TV Today editor Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, former press minister of Washington Sajjad Hossain Sabuj, DBC television assignment editor Naznin Munni, Independent TV chief news editor Ashish Ghosh Saikat, Gazi TV editor (research) Anjan Roy, Shomoy TV鈥檚 Chattogram bureau Chief Komal Dey, Daily Amar Songbad chief editor Abdul Gaffar Khan, Jugantor former Narayanganj correspondent Raju Ahmed, and Exim Bank鈥檚 head of public relations office Sanjib Chatterjee.聽

According to the letters, all transactions of the individuals and their personal business accounts that have been summoned will remain suspended for next 30 days.

The BFIU directive also states that account-related information or documents of the accounts that have been summoned, such as account opening forms, Know Your Customer standards, and transaction statements, should be sent to the BFIU within two working days.
