
Bangladesh Open University agriculture and rural development school dean Professor Abul Hasnat Md Shamim has been appointed as new聽treasurer of the university.
He was appointed as treasurer for the next four years on Thursday.
Professor Shamim obtained his bachelor and master鈥檚 of science in soil science from Dhaka University. He received several awards from the DU聽keeping the same trend in PhD studies at Okayama University, Japan under聽Japanese government Monbukagakusho scholarship.
He joined Bangladesh Open University in March 2005 as a lecturer in soil聽science. He has been appointed as professor in May 2018.
He received training on capacity building for open and distance learning materials. He has been playing significant role in all activities of the SARD, providing education in聽distance and face to face modes.
His field of interests includes problem soils and their聽sustainable uses, ecosystems of salt-affected soils and their management, and analytical聽chemistry.
He is also engaged in different national and international projects. He has published more than 40 research articles and nine books in peer-reviewed national and聽international reputed journals.
An active member of many professional societies both at聽home and abroad and serving as editor and reviewers of some international journals, he has participated in many international conferences and symposia and聽presented his research findings.
During his PhD research, Professor Shamim found slaking and drying is the most efficient and cost-effective method for clarifying of saline soil.
