The World Food Day-2024 will be observed in the country on Wednesday as elsewhere in the world with the theme ‘Right to foods for a better life and a better future’, emphasising the need for universal access to diverse, nutritious, affordable and safe food.

The agriculture ministry and the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations will jointly observe the day.


To mark the day, the agriculture ministry has taken elaborate programmes, including international seminar, mass awareness event and publication of special supplements in mainstream newspapers. Posters, billboards, video messages and documentations also have been published highlighting the significance of the day.

A day long international seminar will be held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in Dhaka. Agriculture adviser lieutenant general (retired) M Jahangir Alam Chowhdury will attend as chief guest.

FAO representative in Bangladesh Jiaoqun Shi and secretary of the ministry of food M Masudul Hasan will attend as special guests while secretary of the ministry of agriculture M Emdad Ullah Miah will presided over the function.

First celebrated in 1979, World Food Day takes place annually on October 16, aimed at promoting awareness about hunger and action for the future food safety for people across the planet.
