
The police arrested Awami League presidium member and former agriculture minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque at Eskaton in the capital on Monday.
Confirming the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for media Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that a team of the Detective Branch arrested Razzaque at about 7:30pm.
He said that Raqzzaque was named in a number of cases, but they were yet to decide in which case he would be shown arrested initially.
The former AL lawmaker from Tangail-1 constituency Abdur Razzaque also served as minister of food and disaster management from 2009 to 2012 and then as food minister until 2013.
In another development, a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on the day remanded former law minister Anisul Huq in police custody for two days in a case filed for the killing of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Al Amin in the capital鈥檚 Badda area on August 5.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda passed the order after Anisul was produced before the court a petition seeking seven-day remand.
Court sources said that Anisul was first produced before the court with an appeal to show him arrested in the case.
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court, meanwhile, granted the application to arrest 14 people including deposed prime minister鈥檚 adviser Salman F Rahman, former law minister Anisul Huq, former state minister for posts and telecommunications Junaid Ahmed Palak, and former inspector general of police Abdullah Al Mamun in 47 cases filed with seven police stations.
These cases, including murder and attempted murder, were filed by the victims of the death and injuries during the mass uprising.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Nurul Huda on Monday granted the application to arrest them in these cases and ordered to send them to jail.
