Members of Rapid Action Battalion on Sunday arrested a fugitive death row convict, who escaped from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur over a month ago, at a residential hotel in Kodda area of Gazipur city.

The arrestee, Lukimuddin Lokman, 54, of Bhanra area under Nagarpur upazila in Tangail district, escaped from the jail on August 6, a day after Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 fall amid a student-led mass uprising, RAB-1 assistant director Md Mahfuzur Rahman said.

He said that they seized a mobile phone from Lokman鈥檚 possession when they arrested him at about 3:00pm on Sunday.

After fleeing the jail, Lokman went into hiding in Kodda area, the RAB official said.

He said that they handed the arrestee over to Konabari police. On August 6, several inmates took prison guards hostage to break open the jail gate as the law and order situation went absent after the fall of Hasina government.

The next day, at least six inmates were killed as they attempted to flee Kashimpur Jail, while 209 of them managed to escape.

Later, the jail authorities filed a case with Konabari police station in this connection.
