
Freedom fighter Kamal Haider, former leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union and the Bangladesh National Awami Party, died at his home in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He was 78.
Kamal Haider, also an organiser of the 1990 mass uprising, was a former Member of Parliament from Narsingdi 3 constituency.
He died in the evening after suffering from different old age complications, said a press release.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at his house premises in Matikata area near Dhaka Combined Military Hospital at 10:30pm on Tuesday.
He would be buried in his village under Shibpur in Narsingdi after the second namaz-e-janaza there today.
Kamal Haider was born on January 21, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
In his student life, Kamal Haider joined politics of the Chhatra Union.
He joined the War of Independence in 1971 directly. Later he served as the organising secretary of NAP, according to the release.
