A 21-year-old youth named Nur Hossain was stabbed to death in Sadar upazila of Jashore on Sunday night, over a dispute stemming from a local football match.
Nur, son of Nazrul Mollah from the Shangkarpur Akbar Mor area, got involved in a clash between two teams that escalated dangerously.
Witnesses described the situation unfolding on Friday night when tensions between the teams reached a breaking point. Although the initial conflict appeared resolved through community intervention, the animosity resumed shortly after, leading to a more sinister outcome.
Nur was attacked by Pocha, Kana Roni, Riyad, and Monir at about 8:30pm, following the earlier altercation, explained a witness.
The attackers allegedly confined Nur in a house within his neighbourhood. Later local people rescued him from the house.
Nur was taken to Jashore General Hospital. Later he died on his way to Dhaka for better treatment.
Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzak confirmed the incident, saying that they were trying to arrest the killers.
