
At least nine people were killed and 14 others were injured in road accidents in Noakhali, Gazipur and Munshiganj districts on Saturday.
The ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Noakhali reported that four passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed in a head-on crash in the Chandraganj Purba Bazar area under Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. The auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside canal after crashing head-on with a truck.
The deceased were identified as Md Rahmat Ullah Bhuiyan, 65, Fazlul Karim, 50, and Md Alauddin, 45, from Latifpur village under Candraganj Police station of Lakshmipur district. The identity of the other deceased could not be known.
The accident occurred around 5:30am, leaving four passengers dead on the spot, said Chandraganj Highway Police officer-in-charge Ruhul Amin.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that two construction workers were killed and 12 others were injured while travelling to their work when a pickup van crashed with a dump truck in Sripur upazila of Gazipur.
The deceased were identified as Rassel Mia, 25, from Dulura village in Sunamganj and his brother-in-law Abu Sufian, 25.
‘Two persons were brought in dead to the Sripur Upazila Health Complex around 5:00am,’ said duty doctor Farah Binte Faruk.
Three injured persons were undergoing treatment at the health complex and the others had been sent to different hospitals, he added.
Rasel died on the spot and the other person died on the way to the health complex, Ahmed said.
The ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Munshiganj reported that three members of a family were killed and two persons were injured after a covered van hit their private car on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Bausia Union area under Gazaria Upazila early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Alamgir Hosen, 58, his son Jahirul Islam, 27, and Rahela Begum, 55, from Chandpur.
Gazaria Fire Service in-charge Rifat Mallik said that the accident occurred around 1:30am, leaving five people injured.
‘We reached the spot within five minutes of receiving the information at 1:50am and started the rescue operation. All the injured were rescued,’ he said.
They were sent to Ghazaria Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared three people dead.
Gazaria Police Station officer-in-charge Rajib Khan said, ‘The private car has been recovered from the spot. Police are investigating the incident and looking for the covered van.’
